3rd Series Recap

3rd Series – Land and Water Triple with an Honor

104 Dogs Started this Series

Test Dogs started out the Series on Sunday at 6:37 am, beginning with "Buddy" and then "Milli" giving the competitors a look at what challenges the 3rd Series has in store! (Monday morning a single test dog ran to show if there were any conditions changed)

The first running dog for this test was #116. FC TOP GUN OAKLEY’S INZAYNITY, “Zayne,” with handler John Haight at 7:11 am Sunday morning.


The weather at the start of the series was in the low 50’s with light rain and then partly sunny skies for most of the remainder and only a light wind.

Here is how things turned out for the 3rd Series…

Our last running dog for this series was dog #
93 HARDCORE TROUBADOR, “Earl,” with handler John Russell. They completed the test and series 3 was in the books at 10:35 am.


There were 104 dogs were sent from the line in this series, taking a total of about 14 hours and 15, which averages out to be just over 8 minutes per dog. 

On to the 4th Series!

3rd Series Complete

 Series 3 was completed and in the books at 10:35 am.

Rerun Handle 93. HARDCORE TROUBADOR, “Earl,” LM, John Russell

Earl and John came to the line at 10:28 am

F – Out to the area and quickly got his bird.

Ret. Bridge – Ran to the right point and a giant dive into the water, back to the right point and hunted again, to the left point and got it!

Ret. Island – Straight to the island, but he missed his bird! Got on the far shore and had to handle back to the bird.



114. BIG SKY’S LIVING THE DREAM QA2, “Tana,” LF, Karen Young

Tana and Karen came to the line ...

F – Out under the arc, and then left to the bird.

Ret. Bridge – Took a left line out, went part way into the water, the right back to the bird.

Ret. Island – Straight to the bird




113. AFC HIGH PEAK’S TANGLED UP IN BLUE, “Dylan,” LM, Samantha Thompson

Dylan and Samantha came to the line at 10:18 am

F – Straight to the bird.

Ret. Bridge – Swam the channel and got out to the left and went straight to the bird!

Ret. Island – Across the field to just left of the blind, went left and right on the shore, then turned and went to the island and his bird.




112. FC-AFC WIGHT’S THE DARK SIDE, “Vader,” LM, Tracy Wight

Vader and Tracy came to the line at 10:10 am

F – Smack!

Ret. Bridge – Busted into the channel and swam to the area between points, went right, checked out the tulles and then back to the left side and she got it!

Ret. Island – Out to the island from the area between the blind and the island. Nice!



111. AFC BAYOU TECHE PERFECT GAME, “Koufaxx,” LM, Lauren Hays

Koufaxx and Lauren came to the line at 10:05 am

F – Straight to his bird!

Ret. Bridge – 3 loops on the point and then into the water to his bird!

Ret. Island – A loop on the land and then into the water and swam to the island and got his bird for a nice job!




Rerun Pick-Up 104. COPPERTOP REPEAT AFTER ME, “Echo,” LF, Josie Ottman

Echo and Josie came back to the line at 9:54 am

F – Hunted deep and wide, but worked it out.

Ret. Bridge – Into the end of the channel, out in the tulles on the right, a small hunt then crossed the bird.

Ret. Island – Out under the arc, went deep and was handled, but had to be picked up.



110. FC YIPPY KAI YAY, “Kai,” LF, John Stracka

Kai and John came to the line at 9:47 am

F – Straight to the bird!

Ret. Bridge – Straight to the bird from the left

Ret. Island – Hunted right and on the mound past the pond, but came back to the island and she got it! Nice job!




Pick-up 109. AFC R&A’S TAP DANCER, “Katie,” LF, Rip Shively

Katie and Rip came to the line at 9:35 am

F – Hunted back side of the flyer, got on the mound behind the island bird, worked way back to the bird.

Ret. Bridge – Out to the right hand point and hunted hard, crossed the channel to the left point and her bird.

Ret. Island – Straight to the island, but she missed it, and had to handle back to the bird, but had to be picked up per the judges.




108. FC-AFC TALL OAKS RAGS TO RUFUS, “Rufus,” LM, Phil Heye

Rufus and Phil came to the line at 9:30 am

F – Straight to it!

Ret. Bridge – Took a left line straight to the bird!

Ret. Island – Line was right of the blind, a couple loops on land and then in the water to the island and his bird!




Pick-up 107. AFC GET BACK, “Loretta,” CBRF, Bill Burks

Loretta and Bill came to the line at 9:19 am

F – Nice job!

Ret. Bridge – Into the channel and got out on the right, hunted the tulles, back into he water to the left shore and got her bird!

Ret. Island – Headed out way right, had to be handled and then picked up.


Handle 106. FC-AFC LUNATIK FRINGE, “Lulu,” LF, Kyle Broussard

Lulu and Kyle came to the line ...

F – Out to the area and quickly found her bird

Ret. Bridge – Hunted the point and blind briefly and then across to the bird.

Ret. Island – Swam left of the island up the mound, and was immediately handled with a few whistles to get her to the island and the bird.



105. BLUE OYSTER RUSH. QA2 MH, “Rush,” LM, Pamela King

Rush and Pamela came to the line at 9:04 am

F – Missed it on his first pass, long loop right and then back left and he got the bird.

Ret. Bridge –  Huge splash, and swam straight to the bird!

Ret. Island – Into the water under the arc, turned left to the island and directly to his bird!




Nobird 104. COPPERTOP REPEAT AFTER ME, “Echo,” LF, Josie Ottman

Echo and Josie came to the line at 8:59 am and had a no bird on the flyer, they will be back after 6 running dogs ...


Gun Change

 Last gun change of the 3rd Series

Handle 103. FC-AFC FLAWLESS EXECUTION - FLEX, “Flex,” LM, Johnny Armstrong

FLEX and Johnny came to the line at 8:38 am

F – Right to the area and he got his bird!

Ret. Bridge – One loop on the point and then back in the water to the bird.

Ret. Island – Line out to behind the blind, handled with a few whistles on land before the water, Flex went out of sight for a little while, then another whistle got him to his bird.



101. FC-AFC SEASIDE’S SMARTY JONES, “Smarty,” LF, Derek Smith

Smarty and Derek came to the line at 8:34 am

F – Smack!

Ret. Bridge – Into the channel, and out on the left shore, straight to the tulles and her bird!

Ret. Island – Out left of the blind, hunted near the shore, then out to the island and she got her bird for a nice job!


100. AFC CITORI’S AGENT SLOANE, “Jack,” LF, Michael Moore

Jack and Michael came to the line at 8:28 am

F – Out to the fall area and straight to the bird

Ret. Bridge – Into the channel out on the right side, hunted the tulles hard, after the hunt she went back into the channel crossed to the left side and his bird.

Ret. Island – Drove straight to this bird! Nice job!

99. FC-AFC JIMAVICHE’S HOLLANDAISE JAMMER, “Jammer,” LM, Bobby Lee

Jammer and Bobby came to the line at 8:21 am

F – Jammer made a quick retriever of his flyer!

Ret. Bridge – Great line out to the area, a couple small loops before he got his bird.

Ret. Island – Line out under the arc, then 1 loop left and right past the blind, then straight to the island and the bird.
