The 5th series will be a Land Quad at Retriever Land - Test Site 1. 

Test Dogs will start running at 6:30 am, and the 1st running dog will be at 7:00 am. 


*Note - there is a large pond on the way to the line. Feel free to get your dogs wet to keep them cool.


Directions to Test Site 5: North or South on Back Road. 

South on Back Road from Polson – Turn Left on Pablo West Rd., Go 1 mile and turn left on Stasso Rd. At the sign turn Left into Retriever Land.

North on Back Road from Round Butte Rd. – Turn Right on Pablo West Rd., Go 1 mile and Turn Left on Stasso Rd. At the sign turn Left into Retriever Land.

4th Series – Water Blind

88 Dogs Started this Series

Test Dogs started out the Series at 11:30 am, beginning with "Buddy" and then "Milli" giving the competitors a look at this fast moving water blind.

The first running dog for this test was #22 FC-AFC TIPPECANOE’S COSMIC JOURNEY, “Trek,” with handler George Wamsley at 11:40 am.


The weather at the start of the series was in the upper 50’s with partly cloudy skies and a light variable wind.

Here is how things turned out for the 4th Series…
Pick-Ups (1): 64

Our last running dog for this series was dog #21 FC-AFC SEASIDE LULA BLUE, “Lula,” with handler Kathy Vignos. They completed the test and series 4 was in the books at 4:46 pm.


There were 88 dogs sent from the line in this series, taking a total of almost exactly 5 hours to complete, which averages out to be a little more than minutes per dog. 

Test 4 is in the books ... On to the 5th Series!

Today will conclude with the 4th series water blind. 


The 5th series will start tomorrow, it will be a Land Quad at Retriever Land - Test Site 1. 

Test Dogs will start running at 6:30 am, and the 1st running dog will be at 7:00 am. 


More instructions will be provided on how to access the east side of the property.

4th Series - Water Blind

Series 4 – Water Blind

We're here at the same field as the 3rd Series. The bird crates have been left out, and there is one visible blind planter sitting next to the crates. The running mat has been moved 5 yds to the right. 

It is 57 degrees, partly cloudy skies, and there is a slight, and variable wind. 

The blind is 262 yds long. 

The initial line to the blind brings the dogs through the same swale they crossed in the 3rd series. The water entry point is 150 yds from the mat. There is good visibility of the dog at the entry point. 

The swim is approximately 50 yds, and the bird is approximately 60 yds from the water’s exit. 

This test is taking approximately 2-3 minutes per dog.

3rd Series – Land and Water Triple with an Honor

Test Dogs started out the Series on Sunday at 6:37 am, beginning with "Buddy" and then "Milli" giving the competitors a look at what challenges the 3rd Series has in store! (Monday morning a single test dog ran to show if there were any conditions changed)

The first running dog for this test was #116. FC TOP GUN OAKLEY’S INZAYNITY, “Zayne,” with handler John Haight at 7:11 am Sunday morning.


The weather at the start of the series was in the low 50’s with light rain and then partly sunny skies for most of the remainder and only a light wind.

Our last running dog for this series was dog #
93 HARDCORE TROUBADOR, “Earl,” with handler John Russell. They completed the test and series 3 was in the books at 10:35 am.


There were 104 dogs were sent from the line in this series, taking a total of about 14 hours and 15, which averages out to be just over 8 minutes per dog. 

On to the 4th Series!

Earl and John came to the line at 10:28 am

F – Out to the area and quickly got his bird.

Ret. Bridge – Ran to the right point and a giant dive into the water, back to the right point and hunted again, to the left point and got it!

Ret. Island – Straight to the island, but he missed his bird! Got on the far shore and had to handle back to the bird.

Ret. Island – Across the field to just left of the blind, went left and right on the shore, then turned and went to the island and his bird.

Ret. Bridge – Busted into the channel and swam to the area between points, went right, checked out the tulles and then back to the left side and she got it!

Ret. Island – Out to the island from the area between the blind and the island. Nice!

F – Hunted deep and wide, but worked it out.

Ret. Island – Out under the arc, went deep and was handled, but had to be picked up.

F – Straight to the bird!

Ret. Bridge – Straight to the bird from the left

Ret. Island – Hunted right and on the mound past the pond, but came back to the island and she got it! Nice job!

Katie and Rip came to the line at 9:35 am

F – Hunted back side of the flyer, got on the mound behind the island bird, worked way back to the bird.

Ret. Bridge – Out to the right hand point and hunted hard, crossed the channel to the left point and her bird.

Ret. Island – Straight to the island, but she missed it, and had to handle back to the bird, but had to be picked up per the judges.

Ret. Bridge – Into the channel and got out on the right, hunted the tulles, back into he water to the left shore and got her bird!

Lulu and Kyle came to the line ...

F – Out to the area and quickly found her bird

Ret. Bridge – Hunted the point and blind briefly and then across to the bird.

Ret. Island – Swam left of the island up the mound, and was immediately handled with a few whistles to get her to the island and the bird.

FLEX and Johnny came to the line at 8:38 am

F – Right to the area and he got his bird!

Ret. Bridge – One loop on the point and then back in the water to the bird.

Ret. Island – Line out to behind the blind, handled with a few whistles on land before the water, Flex went out of sight for a little while, then another whistle got him to his bird.

Smarty and Derek came to the line at 8:34 am

F – Smack!

Ret. Bridge – Into the channel, and out on the left shore, straight to the tulles and her bird!

Ret. Island – Out left of the blind, hunted near the shore, then out to the island and she got her bird for a nice job!

F – Out to the fall area and straight to the bird

Ret. Bridge – Into the channel out on the right side, hunted the tulles hard, after the hunt she went back into the channel crossed to the left side and his bird.

Ret. Island – Drove straight to this bird! Nice job!

Izzy and Rick came to the line...

F – Out to the flyer area, had a small hunt and she got it!

Ret. Bridge – Barreled into the water! Swam to the left shore and directly to her bird.

Ret. Island – Just inside of the blind, turned left and straight to the island and her bird. Nice job!

Tux and Jack came to the line at 8:07 am

F – Absolutely Stepped on it!

Ret. Bridge – Dove into the pond, touched right then the left bank for the quickest route to his bird. Great job!

Ret. Island – Straight down the field, made a huge splash and swam to the far side and hunted almost into the flyer area, back to the blind and worked it out to get to the island and his bird.

Frazier and Monte came to the line at 8:00 am

F – Had 4 or 5 loops in the area to get the bird

Ret. Bridge – 1 Loop on the point, back into the water and back on point for a couple loops, then back to the water and over to his bird.

Ret. Island – Quickly to the island and the bird!



95. FC-AFC RIMFIRES ONCE INNA BLUE MOON, “Blue,” LM, Mike Crow

Blue and Mike came to the line at 7:53 am

F –  Out under the arc, turned left and worked his way out to the bird.

Ret. Bridge – Into the channel, out on the right side, hunted the tulles, then out to the decoys, but worked it out and got his bird.

Ret. Island – Out across the field right of the blind - crossed and hunted left to right, worked back to the island, got into the pond, over to the island and got his bird!




Handle 94. RIVERWOOD’S RED, SHAQ AND BLU QA2, “Red,” LF, Mark Giese

Red and Mark came to the line ...

F – Out under the arc, a few loops and she got her bird.

Ret. Bridge – Hunted the point for several loops and then back to the water, back to hunt the point and blind area again. Expanded her hunt farther right and in for several more loops, then got in the water over to the bird.

Ret. Island – Great line to the island, but kept going and was handled back to the island and the bird.



Nobird 93. HARDCORE TROUBADOR, “Earl,” LM, John Russell

Earl and John came to the line at 7:37 am and received a no bird on the live flyer which was walking around, handler recalled dog which had already been sent. They will come back after 6 running dogs.


Handle 90. FC-AFC HIGH PEAK’S AMERICAN SNIPER, “Kyle,” LM, Justin Aimone

Kyle and Justin came to the line at 7:27 am

F – Out under the arc, a couple small loops and he had his bird.

Ret. Bridge – Through the water and up on the point, a few loops between the blind and the gunners spot, then back into the water and up on the point again, another short hunt and he worked it out to go over the water to get his bird.

Ret. Island – Into the water behind the blind, he came up on land and was handled, he came in with a couple loops in the front shore, then into the water and the island and then he got his bird.



89. FC-AFC COAL DELIVERY’S BLACK BETTY, “Betty,” LF, Alvin Hatcher

Betty and Alvin came to the line at 7:21 am

F – Hunted in a tight area and got her bird!

Ret. Bridge – Entered the end of the channel, swam the left side and directly to her bird.

Ret. Island – Out under the arc, turned right out of sight and back left deep on the mound behind the island, came in to the island and got her bird.



88. FC-AFC BEAVER RUNS RAYMOND FOR SHERIFF, “Raymond,” LM, Bert Windham

Raymond and Bert came to the line at 7:14 am

F – A couple large loops and slightly deep behind the guns and then on to his bird.

Ret. Island – A couple small loops and the right to the island and the bird!

Ret. Bridge – Out through the water to the bridge, then a couple loops on the bridge, came back to the water and to the point, and then back into the water and over to find his bird.

Dexter and Dale came to the line at 7:06 am

F – Out to the fall area and quickly got his bird.

Ret. Bridge – Down to the waters edge, took a right down the point to the end - hunted 2 big tulle piles, then into the pond and checked the decoys and out onto the left point and he had his bird.

Ret. Island – Out across the field to the holding blind, a few quick passes then out to the island and his bird!

Ret. Island – Went to under the arc, turned left and went to the island and the bird.

3rd Series Test Dog - Day 2

FC-AFC Glenhoma’s Soggy Bottoms Mildred, “Milli” LF

The single test dog to the line this morning was Milli with handler Seth Kelly .... 
Milli came to the line at 6:37 am

Ret. Island – She started a hunt short of the bird, and got a quick handle to get on correct line and get her bird.

Ret. Bridge – Out to the point and hunted on the right, then moved across the channel to the left point of the land and got her bird.

F – Wide right line going out, back-sided the guns and hunted the wrong side, then when deep before working it out and getting her bird.

3rd Series - Day 2

 Good Morning! Today we are starting out back at the 3RD SERIES to finish running the 26 dogs that still need to run this test. 

This is the first morning of the 2023 NARC that has started without rain!  It is about 41 degrees here this morning with a light 5mph SSE winds. We will run one test dog and then begin with the first running dog #86 soon!

There will be one gun change in the remainder of this series after dog #103.

We are looking forward to a great day of some awesome dog work!
