1st & 2nd Series – Land Double and Land Blind

112 Dogs Started this Series

Test Dogs started out the day at 6:40 am, beginning with "Millie"  and then came "Buddy" giving the competitors a good idea of what they might expect for these first two series. 

Our first running dog #92 AFC COOLWATER’S THE MAN BEHIND THE CURTAIN, “Wizard,” with handler Alex Washburn.

The weather today started in the low 50’s with light rain. We had some significant wind, rain and then partly cloudy conditions later day. 

Here is how things turned out for the 1st and 2nd Series…
No-Bird / Re-Run (8): 30 – 53 – 55 – 64 – 70 – 74 – 84 – 113 
Handles (10): 30 – 48 – 49 – 60 – 74 – 78 – 106 – 107 – 113 – 114
Pick-Ups (8): 33 – 47 – 63 – 85 – 91 – 92 – 102 – 115
Scratches (4): 16 – 75 – 79 – 80

Our last running dog for the day, and for Series 1 and 2 was dog #30 FC-AFC SMOKY MOUNTAIN’S MIDNIGHT RIDER, “Ike,” with handler Greg Seddon. 


112 dogs were sent from the line in this series, taking a total of about 11.5 hours, which averages out to be just about 6 minutes per dog. 

On to the 3rd Series we go on Sunday!

F – Short hunt to get to his bird

LR – Line was far left, handled quickly and went all the way to the bird with one whistle!

B – 2 whistles to the bird.


**#30 was the final running dog, and this completes the 1st & 2nd Series**

Louise and Bob came to the line at 6:33 pm

F – Stepped on it!

LR –  Caught scent behind the gunners, several loops and needed to be handled out, but wasn't responding, worked it out too late. Picked up.

Kyle and Justin came to the line at 6:28 pm

F – A few loops to get to the bird which was a short bird.

LR – Line was left of the holding blind, one large loop further left and then came back and straight to the bird.

B – Early whistle, then 3 more whistles to the bird.

Betty and Alvin came to the line at 6:20 pm

F – Out to the area, hunted short, but she worked it out by moving right and she got it!

LR – Out to the blind, hunted the wrong side of the guns, moved to the correct side and she got it.

B – 1 whistle blind!

Limit and Mark came to the line at 6:15 pm

F – Lined under the arc near the guns, a few loops left of the guns, but got the bird after his hunt.

LR – Straight to his bird!

B – 1 whistle at the end and he had it!

F – Straight line from the mat to the bird.

LR – Good initial line but angled very wide left, back to the blind for a loop and then out to the bird.

B –  1 whistle blind!

F – Hunted in the area for a little while, and then came up with his bird!

LR – Good line out and under the arc, turned right and got his bird.

B – Lined the Blind!

F – Long bird, came in under the arc, worked her way out to the fall area and then on to the bird.

LR – Pounced on it!

Evie and Bente came to the line at 5:42 pm

F – Into the area in front of the gunners to the right, established a hunt and then moved over and got her bird.

LR – Skimmed past the flyer guns back side, missed the bird and kept going out of sight- gone for awhile, gunners came to try to help. Dog was picked up.

F – Straight to the fall area and got his bird!

LR – Hunt short for a while, many loops before being handled to the bird.

B – 1 whistle then the dog got into the water, was coming back and 1 more whistle to the bird.

LR – Took a left past the blind, turned around, came back to the blind and then out to the right and his bird.
